THE FACTS:

  • WA lambing percentage has been stuck on 78% since 1979.
  • Ewes in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy need 1.7 to 2 times the energy required by dry ewes; lactating ewes need 2.5 to 3 times the energy required by a dry ewe.
  • Green pick is high in water and low in nutrients – these pastures contain around 80-85% water and almost zero fibre.
  • Feeding a ration high in lupins is not the answer.
  • Unless your ewes are receiving a minimum of 15Mj per day during late pregnancy they are not getting sufficient energy.

Consequences of not supplying adequate levels of nutrition to your ewes are;

  • Higher ewe & lamb morality rates
  • Greatly increased risk of pregnancy toxaemia
  • Poor lamb growth & low weaning weights
  • ALL = $ LOST INCOME

  • Tender wool
  • Increased risk of worms
