Milne Feeds Welcomes Jess Andony to the Team

July 20, 2021

Harvey local, Jess Andony, has recently joined the Milne Feeds team.  She will begin work as an understudy to industry expert, and Milne ruminant feed manager, Dean Maughan, who focuses on feed solutions for beef cattle producers, dairy farmers and northern pastoralists across WA.

Jess is from a farming family and her parents made the switch from dairy farming to beef farming in 2012. She is well known in the dairy industry, having worked as a Regional Extension Officer for Western Dairy before joining the Milne Feeds team.  Her work organising Western Dairy's acclaimed annual Dairy Innovation Day and Spring Field Day is one of her career highlights thus far.

Throughout her work in the dairy industry, Jess has taken opportunities to expand her keen interest in animal health, fertility, and nutrition.  She has completed the Dairy Australia Repro Right Advisor and Countdown Advisor training. Jess has a passion for both beef and dairy cattle nutrition, and enabling farmers to feed their livestock well.

Jess holds a Bachelor of Animal Science with Honours from Murdoch University.  She was a recipient of Western Dairy's scholarship, which helped her complete research for her honours thesis assessing the accuracy and convenience of on-farm blood test kits to detect subclinical ketosis in early lactation dairy cows.  For her work on this thesis, Jess was awarded runner-up Best Presenter in the 2015 Emerging Scientist Award.  Jess went on to be awarded the WAFarmers and Rural Bank Agriculture Award in the 2017 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards WA.

Jess is looking forward to carrying on her close connections with the local dairy industry, and her passion for beef cattle, in her new career path at Milne Feeds.
