Rain, Cold, and Field Days

July 24, 2023

It is that time of year again when we have the rain, cold and, of course, regional field days! The calendar is shaping up and, with many events coming around the corner very quickly, our team is looking forward to seeing everyone there.

The Milne Feeds team will be at the Mingenew Midwest Expo on the 9th-10th August and we are looking forward to introducing a few new members.

The sales team now includes Jonathan Langan, who has worked in many areas of Milne Feeds over the past 17 years – from production to logistics.  He will be looking forward to meeting everyone to discuss feed requirements for the upcoming year. Johnno, as he prefers to be known, has a wealth of knowledge, not only of feed production, but also of trucking and logistics movements. If you need assistance finding the most efficient way to get feed where it needs to be on time, he is the person to speak to.  Moreover, if you like fishing, he’ll be more than happy to share his favourite fishing spots. Johnno has recently returned from a mustering stint on a Pilbara station, where he was chasing fish, and being chased by a not-so-friendly cow! That’s a story he can tell you all when you meet him at the field days.

We’ll also have Oxana Yashina, our new Business Process Manager, in attendance.  Oxana is an experienced grain trader, having been involved in the agriculture sector for many years, and will be more than happy to discuss the new season of offsets and swaps programs on offer at Milne Feeds. She will be working closely with the many farmers who take advantage of the program to trade their grain for complete, nutritionally balanced pellets.  This time of year presents farmers with the opportunity to lock in their feed requirements in exchange for grain they have stored either on farm or in the CBH network. With storages charges starting from next month, farmers are encouraged to evaluate the potential outcome of grain pricing, and the ideal selling time, or holding it as a hedging tool against feed prices.  Oxana has extensive knowledge of the grain market and is keen to help farmers turn their grain into profitable feed solutions by converting it to quality, easy-to-use feed such as EasyOne® and LambGro®, which have proven growth performance and results.

This year’s Mingenew Midwest expo is back and bigger than ever.  The good news is that the field day(s) will return to its old site and the original two day format. To top this off, the event will be celebrating 40 years since it first ran.  The expo was developed back in 1983, by Bob Paskins, who wanted to start an agricultural day that would provide essential information regarding farming and agriculture. He wanted the event to provide a way for local businesses from the Midwest region to exhibit their stock and services. It has become the largest agricultural field day in Western Australia’s Midwest.

The event is held in the small country town of Mingenew, which is around 380 km from Perth.  The shire has a population of only 407 people.  It is amazing that such a large event is organised by such a small town, but everyone gets involved to make the field day a huge success. The day is not-for-profit and the proceeds go back into the community to keep the town alive and vibrant.  We are pleased to support this event and look forward catching up with everyone there. Look out for the red Milne Feeds marquee and our new, purpose-built field day trailer!
